Stop and Search

Banksy

In this print, rendered in mostly black and white, we see a picture of a policeman searching Dorothy’s basket as Toto stands to one side. The policeman’s search is an act of paranoia given that in, The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy is the character who expels forces of evil. Indeed, she eventually kills the Wicked Witch of the West. Thus, the policeman is obsessively monitoring a young girl, who is innocuous and also, in her own right, a campaigner for justice.
